Hi there! Thank you for your interest in learning more about the human behind this website. I’ll try to keep it short and to the point, while revealing a few things about myself and why I created this space on the internet.
I think it’s safe to say that my passion for travel goes way back to when I was a child. I always loved taking trips with my parents, especially going camping somewhere in the mountains close to where I grew up in Romania. I was just so genuinely happy to get in the car and watch the landscape change as we left the city and got into nature. Oh and exploring forests, and rivers, picking flowers, and taking pictures.
When I was 7, I went on an adventure with my 6-year old friend to explore the city (Brasov). We took the bus and walked around the places we knew and got to discover some unknown ones. We obviously did all this without our parents knowing and, as went back home in the evening, we soon found out they were crazy worried and obviously mad at us. We didn’t do that again, but I still explored the city whenever I got the chance.
I moved to Italy when I was 14 and that experience alone taught me a lot about starting from scratch, making new friends, getting used to a new language and new traditions. I adapted quickly, learned Italian, and before I knew it Italy was home. I still have that feeling with many places I got to live in. It’s easy for me to feel “at home” because my home is simply wherever I feel good.
I went on every school trip there was (thanks to my parents) but my first “solo” trip was when I was 19 and I went to Spain to visit my relatives. The more I got to travel, the more places I wanted to see. I would constantly ask my friends to go on trips but it was always so complicated to get everyone on board. Eventually, I gave up and started traveling alone most of the time.
My first real solo trip was to London, in 2012. I spent a month exploring the city and trying to get a job I never managed to get. Then it was time for my Erasmus and more life-changing experiences. And I think those six months in Barcelona did it for me. I met so many new people and went on several trips both to Spain and to other countries during that time (including Morocco). After that, I kept traveling whenever I got the chance.
I did my Master’s thesis research in Australia, the furthest country I could think of, so I could combine my studies with exploring a place I knew I wouldn’t be able to see very soon otherwise. I spent two months and a half down under and saw some truly incredible places. I have only one article from my time in Australia, but hopefully, I’ll write more soon.
After finishing university, I moved to Lisbon for work. I spent a little over two years there and fell in love with the country. I got to explore nearly every city and so many small towns and villages, beautiful beaches, and so much more. Portugal remains one of my favorite countries in the world and I always love going back.
After Lisbon came Berlin. This is where I had sort of a wake up call. I moved there for work but soon realized how much I wanted to quit my full-time job and just travel. And so, after thinking about it for a while, I did it. In December 2019, I quit my job and left my room in Berlin to just travel. Little did I know that only one month later Covid would happen and my plans would be completely ruined.
In February 2020 I flew to New York, one of my dream destinations. While I was in New York, Italy was already fighting the virus that was quickly spreading, but North America was chill. So I went to Mexico without a worry. I spent 16 days in the Yucatán peninsula, happy and carefree. But towards the end, the pandemic felt very real. I traveled back to Europe on nearly empty flights as countries were closing their borders and airports were deserted. It was surreal.
Fast forward a few months later, unemployed and with travel nonexistent, and I found myself forced to get another full-time job. I knew it would be temporary, I just didn’t know how long. So I moved back to Rome and worked, waiting for the right time to go back to doing what I love: travel.
Turns out there is no right time. In January 2022 I left my room in Rome (again) and I am now traveling full-time. I work, almost full time, but on my own terms. I have the privilege of being able to work online from anywhere and I am extremely grateful for that.
I travel low cost. I do not stay in fancy hotels (unless someone is offering? *hint hint*) and I do not spend a lot of money eating out or buying stuff. I just want to see the world. From what I’ve seen so far, it has so much to offer it’s sometimes overwhelming. But there’s so much beauty waiting to be discovered. And I want to share that with someone. So I do it here, with whoever is reading.
This blog is for me, but it’s also for you. So contact me, ask me whatever you feel like. Whether it’s to give me feedback or ask me for advice, I’d love to be of service. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Meanwhile, thanks for reading (and wow congrats I never thought you would make it till the end).
I wish you an amazing journey!
